Optimising YouFibre full-fibre performance
- Hardware readiness: Check network cards, USB adapters and switches before expecting multi-gigabit results.
- Cable standard: Use reliable Cat6, Cat6a or better cabling for wired tests, especially when testing multi-gigabit packages.
- Correct router port: Multi-gigabit packages need the high-speed LAN/WAN port on the supplied YouFibre Hub Pro, eero gateway or attached multi-gig switch. A standard 1Gbps port will usually cap real throughput around 940Mbps.
- Wi‑Fi expectation: Wireless may not match a fast symmetrical line unless router and device standards align. Current YouFibre Hub and Hub Pro hardware is designed around Wi‑Fi 7, but older installed eero or client devices can still be the bottleneck.
- Loaded testing: Run tests during uploads because symmetrical packages are often used for cloud backup and streaming out.
Break the 940Mbps multi-gigabit port trap
If a YouFibre 2000, 7000 or 8000 package repeatedly tests at about 940Mbps over Ethernet, the service may not be the limiting factor. That ceiling is often caused by a 1Gbps network card, switch, docking station, router LAN port or cable path.
- Find the multi-gig port: use the fastest LAN/WAN port on the supplied router or mesh gateway for the high-speed device or multi-gig switch. On eero Pro 6E setups, only one Ethernet port is 2.5Gbps; on newer high-end hardware, use the 10Gbps-capable interfaces where supplied.
- Upgrade the client interface: a normal laptop or motherboard Ethernet port is often 1Gbps only. For 2Gbps, 7Gbps or 8Gbps tests, use a 2.5G/10G PCIe network card, a quality multi-gig USB adapter or a Thunderbolt 3/4 to 10Gb Ethernet adapter.
- Use the right cable path: replace old patch leads with known-good Cat6a, Cat7 or Cat8 copper cables for the ONT-to-router, router-to-switch and switch-to-device path.
- Remove hidden 1Gbps equipment: old wall ports, powerline adapters, cheap switches, TV docks and mesh nodes can silently downrate the path even when the package and main router are multi-gig capable.
