When early termination charges may apply
Broadband contracts often have a minimum term such as 12, 18 or 24 months. If you leave early simply because you found a cheaper deal, your current provider may charge an early exit fee.
When you may be able to leave without penalty
- Promised speeds are not being met. Keep speed test results and follow your provider's fault process.
- Your provider changes key contract terms. Check any notice they send you.
- A price rise goes beyond what was agreed. Providers should be clear upfront about price rises.
- Your provider goes out of business and no provider takes over. You should not normally have to pay to sign up elsewhere if your service is ending.
Do not cancel your direct debit as the first step. Contact the provider, keep records and use the complaint process if needed.
