Why Is My Broadband Slow?

Slow broadband can be caused by the line, the router, Wi‑Fi or the devices using it.

Start with Wi‑Fi

Many slow broadband problems are actually Wi‑Fi problems. Test close to the router, then compare with the room where you normally use the internet.

If speed is good near the router but poor elsewhere, coverage or interference is likely.

Check background usage

Cloud backups, game updates, streaming devices and security cameras can use bandwidth in the background.

Pause large downloads and test again.

Test at different times

Evening slowdowns can point to congestion. If your speed is always poor on Ethernet, contact your broadband provider.
